February STM

Because we had no nominees in January, we allowed for 2 Super Teachers of the Month in February. Meet Dr. Diana Bonney and Ms. Adriana Toles!

Dr. Dianna Bonney is our gifted teacher at Orangewood Elementary and she is so deserving because of all the “extra" effort she puts in as a teacher. She is the Arizona Science Teachers Association Elementary School Science Teacher of the Year for 2015.

Dr. Bonney has been an active member of the PTA for years. She attends both Site council and PTA meetings, she partners with the PTA on special science nights that inspire the children and help fundraise for our school. She partners with our Art teacher to create a clay club and uses her after school Clay club to make bowls for the empty bowl project which strives to feeds the hungry , She runs the award winning Orangewood robotics club and takes them on tour to SOS AZ events, 21st century integrate to innovate conferences and to colleges to gain exposure and funding for her group. She has successfully used Donorschoose.org to obtain her gifted classa3dprinterandmaterials tofurthertheireducationinrealworld technology, has used her community connections to facilitate many many interesting field trips/events with Camp Colley, runs the Environmental club to help the school recycle, donated some of her fundraising to help the school garden and has helped put Orangewood school on the map by hosting the Annual Robotics Competition in November 2015. Dr. Bonney is an amazing woman and she does so much for our students and never expects any recognition, so it would be especially appreciated to have her accomplishments acknowledged at this level.

Our second Super Teacher is Ms. Adriana Toles of Challenger Middle School PTA. Let me introduce you to Ms. Adriana Toles, a remarkable 7th grade educator in her 8th year at Challenger Middle School, who is able to relate to her students in a way that many other teachers cannot. Ms. Toles works tirelessly, as their teacher, to provide some form of constant stability in the lives of her students. She develops students as writers and helps them to believe in themselves. She develops them as thinkers and this carries with them through 8th grade and high school.

Ms. Toles works hard in areas outside of the classroom as well, she is the co-sponsor of the Student Council, where students are pushed and shaped to become lifelong leaders. She is the girls' flag football coach, the boys basketball club sponsor, and the 7/8th grade boys basketball coach. In both of these sports, she instructs the students on far more than just the game. In these clubs, students learn responsibility, teamwork, perseverance, and other life skills that they will need in order to be a contributing member to any team.

As Treasurer for P.T.S.A., I have had the opportunity this year to work with Ms.Toles on ordering and distributing $1,000 of books to all five grade levels of students as the result of a generous grant from Rotary, Sun City. I had the great joy of helping Ms. Toles and her student government leaders in her efforts to decorate the gym for the Holiday Movie Night:lights, wreaths, trees and Oh so much cheer! Congratulations Ms. Toles and Challenger Middle School PTSA!
